High Resolution Seafloor Mapping
High resolution seafloor mapping takes place from either a ROV and/or AUV using high frequency high resolution multibeam sonar. This does not differ much from general high resolution seafloor mapping from a surface vessel, except that the third dimension comes into play in this application.
Meaning:
Meaning:
- Surface navigation is integrated with sub surface navigation (acoustic positioning)
- Such as LBL or LUSBL
- LUSBL or LBL is integrated with attitude sensor and DVL
This integrated positioning system provides high accuracy positioning data to convert the range/bearing multibeam data to XYZ data.
When executed from a ROV/AUV platform, the operator achieves the highest resolution seafloor topographical data, a data-set that can be used directly for infrastructure planning and analysis of potential pipeline routes.
