Echosounder to measure the underwater profile of rock breakwaters provides engineers the ability to locate potential problem areas prior to failure. This enables repairs to be completed at a fraction of the cost usually associated with this operation.

The lightweight and portable SeaBat provides accurate, dense soundings to locate cracks, pipeline leaks and small objects. Producing real-time 3-dimensional visualizations and quantitative data sets for charting and plotting is efficient and quick, with software like PDS2000. The swath coverage allows the survey vessel to stay away from the breakwater and thereby out of dangerous currents and waves experienced closer to shore.

Using a SeaBat also allows the mapping and inspection of previously inaccessible underwater areas, including under moored vessels, beneath harbor pilings, bridge abutments, and locations too hazardous for divers, or where visibility is not ideal for visual inspection.
