SeaBat 7125-AUV
Detailed images for safe detonations
Running along the Baltic seafloor from Russia to Germany, the Nord Stream Pipeline will supply enough natural gas to power 26 million homes a year. But before the first lengths of pipe can be laid, a path has to be cleared through munitions and debris left by 1000 years of shipping. And that means laying explosives.
Diving with explosives in such murky waters is out of the question. Not even cameras fitted to ROVs can pick out enough detail. So the team from MMT Sweden equipped their two ROVs with the latest dual-head SeaBat 7125-AUVs. Operating at a resolution of 400kHz, the 7125s produce clear, detailed images, helping the team set their explosives in safety. And, after detonation, they return to make sure the path is clear – and all the charges have detonated.
